Gye Hutson is an Austin native. He grew up near Lake Travis, went to Leander High School, then Austin Community College and Southwestern University in Georgetown — and he has spent his life in Central Texas. That matters in this work: he knows Central Texas soil, Central Texas bugs, and Central Texas drought.

In 1998 he opened Excel Pest & Lawn Control in South Austin, pest control first with lawn work alongside it. In 2007 the landscaping side grew into its own brand, Research Turf Management — the same year the business earned its BBB accreditation. Today both brands run from one warehouse at 175 Warehouse Drive, Ste A in Buda, with a shared office and shared crews. Plenty of customers use both.

Family, in the literal sense

Both brands describe themselves as family-owned and locally operated, and they mean it — Gye Hutson is married with three daughters. His philosophy is the throughline of everything we do: he treats every home as if it were his own, and every customer — and their four-legged family members — like neighbors. That is why our products are water-based and chosen with pets and kids in mind.
